Designed to give the basic elementary techniques to the new paddler. Skills such as forward and reverse paddling turning and support strokes and the all-important capsize drill are covered by this course. The B.C.U. 1 star is a one-day course.
Juniors are recommended to participate in the Paddlepower scheme which is specifically designed for the younger paddler.
Developing the fundamentals of the sport learnt at 1 star level and introducing the use of spray decks, as well as self-rescue techniques. One of the prerequisites for the successful completion of the course is to complete a short river trip, which can be organised through the centre.
Whitewater skills and the Eskimo roll are developed at this level. Pool sessions and river trips are usually incorporated for this certificate. Successful completion of this course and a candidate may consider themselves to be a competent paddler.

An entry level award suitable for taster sessions or as part of a series of sessions.
Four progressive levels based on 24 topics which can be grouped into Safety Awareness, Paddling Skills, Varied Experiences, and Supporting Knowledge. The award is equivalent to 1 Star.
This follows on from Passport with a further 4 levels to take the young paddler to equivalent of 2 star standard.
Three different levels take the paddler on an extensive journey exploring the great variety Paddlesport, with topics focused on participation in events and journeys in the competitive and non-competitive disciplines.
Paddlepower Passport sessions are run as a block of three days per course (usually one day a week for three consecutive weeks) costing £108. Please contact us to enquire about dates.
